Domenico Berardi feels Sassuolo ‘sent a signal’ with their 5-2 victory away to Milan and admits he ‘found myself again a little bit today’ with his spectacular individual performance.
It was the first time since April 1997 against Juventus that the Rossoneri had conceded five on home turf in Serie A, but also ended a disastrous Neroverdi run of just two points from the previous eight rounds.
“We did really well against Monza and I think we deserved to win there too. Perhaps we alternated good performances with a poor attitude, but today you could see we were all on the same page. We sent a strong signal, it was a great performance in a wonderful stadium like San Siro,” Berardi told Sky Sport Italia.
It is safe to say Berardi is transformed whenever he faces Milan, scoring 11 goals and setting up six assists against the Diavolo.
He was even on target with a rare header this afternoon, as well as providing three assists for his teammates.
“I am not at 100 per cent yet, I had flu over the week too and skipped two training sessions. I need to work hard to rediscover my physical and mental form. I think I found myself a little bit today and hope to build on that.”
This could be the turning point for Sassuolo’s season, as they had been without a Serie A victory since mid-October and had scored only six away goals before netting five in one go today.
“The key is to run for each other, have the right attitude. We’ve shown some of that for a while now and we must continue to do it even more in future,” added Berardi.
Meanwhile, it’s the low point for Milan, who had already crashed out of the Coppa Italia to 10-man Torino, lost the Supercoppa Italiana 3-0 to Inter and lost 4-0 at Lazio earlier this week.
“Milan are struggling, it’s a difficult moment for them, but they remain a great team and it is not easy to come and win here.”
