Belotti: ‘Just getting started for Italy’

Andrea Belotti is “happy and very fired-up” after his first Italy goal, but doesn’t see himself as a starter – “I was the last to arrive”.

The Torino striker scored on his first Azzurri start against Macedonia, becoming the first Torino player to score for La Nazionale in 35 years.

“I didn’t know that,” Belotti admitted to Tuttosport.

“That means the goal gives me even more pleasure and takes on an even more special and important meaning.

“I’d say it’s not bad for my first time as a starter. I’m happy, very happy. A dedication? Definitely my girlfriend, and my family who have always stood by me.

“I’m happy and very fired-up, ready to give my best as always.

“Am I a starter now? You must be joking, I know that no-one should ever feel comfortable, partly because the competition is strong everywhere.

“I was the last to arrive, and I’ve just started…”

Ciro Immobile got a double in the Macedonia game, and Belotti believes their understanding is good after playing together at Torino.

“We were fortunate enough to play together for a few months so we know each other well.

“Not to mention that we had [CT Giampiero] Ventura as Coach, so we know how to move and what positions to take up.

“Everyone knows each other to perfection and there’s no rivalry between us, just a great desire to work together for the good of the national team.”
