The Switzerland international completed his move from the Partenopei to the Bundesliga outfit at the weekend.
But the midfielder was unveiled today, and was clear in his admiration for the Stadio San Paolo outfit.
“For me, Napoli has been a unique and unforgettable experience,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“They were two emotional years full of ups and downs. I now understand what it means to play in that shirt and what it means to represent the Neapolitans.
“Naples is a place that appreciates those who give 100 per cent. The fans helped me a lot on and off the pitch.
“I have never had so many messages of thanks when leaving a club. Usually, when a player leaves the fans are quick to criticise, but not in Naples.
“Benitez is a good Coach and a good person, but in my head I already wanted to try something different.
“The thing I’ll remember most is playing against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions at San Paolo.”
