‘Barreto strike should have stood’

Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira believes Edgar Barreto’s ‘goal’ against Milan should have been allowed to stand.

The Paraguayan midfielder thought he had given the Blucerchiati the lead when he found the net in the second half of the match at Luigi Ferraris, but the goal was chalked off for offside.

In a controversial match, Samp had another goal disallowed while the Rossoneri had two strong penalty claims turned down. Milan eventually won 1-0 through Carlos Bacca's late strike.

In a controversial match, Samp had another goal disallowed while the Rossoneri had two strong penalty claims turned down. Milan eventually won 1-0 through Carlos Bacca's late strike.

“I am sure that the game would have changed,” Torreira said of a goal that appeared to be wrongly disallowed. “And by the way, they told me that Barreto’s position was fine.”

The 20-year-old then revealed the anger in the Samp dressing room following defeat, though he did take time to praise his team’s fans.

“We are very angry with his defeat. After the Roma game, in this match too we have lost it at the end.

“After what happened at the Olimpico we didn’t get demoralised. Instead, we worked and played with the same mentality as before.

“I want to say one thing about the fans. It’s great that the people believe in us and applaud us all the time.”
