Barcelona midfielder Gavi has won Tuttosport’s Golden Boy award for 2022, beating out talents like Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.
The Golden Boy award was established by Turin based newspaper Tuttosport in 2003 and sees journalists from across Europe vote on the most impressive Under-21 player in Europe during a calendar year. Previous winners include Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Mario Balotelli.
As announced today, Gavi has won the Golden Boy 2022 award, beating Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich and Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid in the final.
Speaking after receiving the award, Gavi said: “Thanks to everyone, I thank the family who have always been close to me, I could never have won without them and without Barcelona.”
The 18-year-old Spaniard also recently won the 2022 Kopa Trophy award during the recent Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Milan’s Paolo Maldini won the Best European Director award and Juventus’ Fabio Miretti was handed the Best Italian Golden Boy award.
Gavi has made 61 appearances for Barcelona since breaking into the first team last season, scoring two goals and providing seven assists in that time. His new contract with the Blaugrana sees him tied to the club until 2026 and it reportedly contains a €1 billion release clause.
