Mario Balotelli has acknowledged that Atletico Madrid ‘are a great team’, and that their clash with Milan is not about himself and Diego Costa.

The two strikers are set to meet this Wednesday at San Siro in the first leg of their respective sides’ Champions League Last 16 clash.

“Atletico is doing really well in the Spanish championship. They are a great team,” Balotelli has told Marca’s latest issue.

“The tie is between Milan and Atletico [not between Diego Costa and Mario Balotelli]. Although Diego Costa seems like a very good player.

“[Diego] Simeone was a great player and is a great Coach. It is always an honour for a Coach to rate me. At the moment, I'm with Milan. I can't say much more.

“[Clarence] Seedorf and I talked about the situation in the team and about the things I need to do on the field. I'm happy.

“In this situation, changes are normal. Seedorf is a great champion and it's a pleasure to listen to him. He was also a great player. Hopefully it will all go well.”

Balotelli was also asked about his former side Manchester City’s impending clash with Barcelona.

“I hope City beat Barcelona. My former teammates are there, but it will be very tough. Barcelona is one of the favourites at the moment.”
