Soon-to-be Roma director general Franco Baldini has blasted captain Francesco Totti. “He's too lazy and needs to focus on his football.”

Baldini is not officially in charge of the Giallorossi, as he is still general manager of England, but is generally referred to in Italy as already pulling the strings.

“Totti has four or five years of playing career left ahead of him, if he manages to focus only on football and nothing else,” Baldini told La Repubblica newspaper.

“But he has to free himself of his laziness and those who use his name, even without him realising. He needs to stop letting things happen, as the lighter his load, the further he'll go in football.”

The reference could well be to the number of sponsorship, advertising and television deals that Totti has, some alongside his TV star wife Ilary Blasi.

It is widely reported that Totti is upset with these statements and the fans are siding with their captain.
