Atalanta’s missing Azzurri duo

Atalanta already have two players in Italy’s initial Euro 2012 squad, but they believe two others deserved similar recognition.

Uncapped midfielders Luca Cigarini and Ezequiel Schelotto were included in the preliminary 32-man party on Sunday night.

Now Atalanta director Pierpaolo Marino thinks Italy boss Cesare Prandelli should have looked at their defence too.

“Federico Peluso certainly deserved the call and, in my opinion, he went very close to being included,” Marino noted.

“I’d also like to add the name of Andrea Consigli as well.”

Peluso, a left-back, was omitted in favour of Palermo’s Federico Balzaretti and Domenico Criscito of Zenit.

Goalkeeper Consigli was ignored given that the Coach selected Gigi Buffon [Juventus], Morgan De Sanctis [Napoli], Salvatore Sirigu [Paris SG] and Emiliano Viviano [Palermo].

Both Cigarini and Peluso have never been called up to the full Italian international set-up.
