Atalanta are finalising the details for Juventus defender Merih Demiral, on loan with option to buy for a total €27.5m, freeing up Cristian Romero for Tottenham Hotspur at €55m.
According to Sportitalia – who have been first to the Romero story as well as Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea proposal – we are just hours away from the defender domino effect taking off.
That’s because Demiral was already not at the Juventus training session today, preparing for his medical with Atalanta.
La Dea are set to pay €2.5m for the one-season loan, with an option to buy for another €25m, and he could have his tests as early as tomorrow.
Once that deal is done, Atalanta will allow Romero to have his medical with Tottenham Hotspur, completing a transfer for €55m including bonuses.
It represents a huge profit for Atalanta, who signed Romero on a two-season loan from Juventus in September 2020 with option to buy for a total €18.5m.
Juventus spent €18m to purchase Turkey international Demiral from Sassuolo in the summer of 2019, but his career in Turin was affected by a torn anterior cruciate ligament in January 2020.
