Atalanta: Skrtel out, Kjaer in?

Atalanta have turned to Sevilla centre-back Simon Kjaer after Martin Skrtel sensationally walked out just three weeks into his stay.

The news broke this morning in multiple outlets that Skrtel had terminated his contract by mutual consent, despite only signing on August 9.

While some suggested physical issues and others a row with Coach Gian Piero Gasperini, it seems the veteran had struggled to deal with Atalanta’s rigid training regime.

The fact remains, the Orobici need another defender with experience for their first ever Champions League campaign.

According to ElDesmarque, Atalanta have approached Sevilla for Danish international Kjaer.

The 30-year-old was purchased from Fenerbahce for €12.5m in the summer of 2017, but has fallen down the pecking order.

Kjaer is no stranger to Serie A, having played for Palermo from 2008-10, then Roma in the 2012-13 campaign.

His other clubs include Wolfsburg, Lille and Fenerbahce.

Sevilla and Atalanta have already done business several times this summer, including for Luis Muriel and Guilherme Arana.
