Atalanta set financial records with big-money sales to Tottenham and Manchester United

Atalanta have ended the eighth consecutive season with a net profit despite not participating in European competitions in 2022-23 and expect even better financial results for 2023-24 thanks to Rasmus Hojlund’s sale to Manchester United.

As reported by Tuttosport, Atalanta have ended the 2022-23 financial year with a net profit of €5.6m, meaning La Dea have not recorded debts for eight consecutive seasons.

Financial results for 2022-23 are particularly significant as Atalanta did not take part in any European competition last term.

The Bergamo-based side registered their biggest-ever capital gain last season by selling Cristian Romero to Tottenham for €33.8m. They also sent Matteo Pessina to Monza for €9.2m, Remo Freuler to Nottingham Forest for €7.5m, Ruslan Malinovskyi to Marseille for €5.3m and Matteo Lovato to Salernitana for €1.4m.

Overall, Atalanta generated €63.1m in capital gains over the 2022-23 campaign.

Remarkably, Hojlund’s sale alone has allowed Atalanta to earn even more even if his €72m transfer to Manchester United (plus €8m add-ons) will be accounted for in the 2023-24 balance sheet.

As reported by Tuttosport, the capital gain registered for Hojlund’s move to Old Trafford will be circa €74m, a new club record.

Atalanta have also invested €100m in stadium refurbishment works building the new ‘Curva Morosini.’
