Atalanta beat Bournemouth with Hojlund on bench

Atalanta earned a 3-1 victory away to Premier League side Bournemouth with Teun Koopmeiners taking centre-stage, but Manchester United target Rasmus Hojlund was not used.

The striker was left on the bench throughout the match at the Vitality Stadium, as he is on the verge of a transfer to Manchester United for what should eventually be around €70m including bonuses.

It was the perfect start for La Dea, who immediately took the lead when Teun Koopmeiners saw his shot fingertipped onto the upright by Norberto Neto, with Joakim Maehle ready to tap in the rebound.

Dominic Solanke nodded wide before Atalanta doubled their lead, Marcos Senesi’s misplaced pass sparking a counter-attack for Koopmeiners to find the back of the net on the Ademola Lookman assist.

Senesi made up for it moments later, turning in the rebound after Solanke’s header on a corner was cleared off the line by Maehle.

Inter-owned goalkeeper Andre Ionut Radu made his Bournemouth debut for the second half, even if he didn’t seem to realise it was starting and sprinted on while still getting his gloves sorted out.

While Bournemouth enjoyed more sterile possession, they conceded a third goal when a free kick was not cleared, allowing Emmanuel Latte Lath to drill home through a sea of legs.
