Atalanta agree Kossounou deal with Bayer Leverkusen

La Dea will pay Bayer Leverkusen a fee of €5.5m to bring the Ivorian defender in on loan for the season, and will have a future option to sign him permanently for an additional €25m. Fabrizio Romano confirms that this will be an option, and not an obligation to buy.

Kossounou was part of the Bayer Leverkusen team that went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten last term.

They also lifted the DFB Pokal and were undefeated in all of their Europa League matches until they met Atalanta in the final, where Ademola Lookman’s historic hat-trick settled a memorable 3-0 win for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

It has been a busy end to the summer for Gasperini’s recruitment team. Kossounou could become Atalanta’s 11th signing of the summer.

La Dea have also brought in Rui Patricio and Juan Cuadrado on free transfers, plus the the transfers and loans of Raoul Bellanova, Lazar Samardzic, Marco Brescianini, Mateo Retegui, Nicolo Zaniolo, Ibrahim Sulemana, Ben Godfrey and Charles De Ketelaere.
