Astori mural unveiled in Florence

A mural depicting Davide Astori was unveiled in Florence today, with Stefano Pioli and Giancarlo Antognoni attending the event.

Astori died on March 4 2018, at Udine’s Hotel La di Moret, the night before Udinese-Fiorentina.

Stefano Pioli was the coach of that Fiorentina side and the current Milan coach travelled to Tuscany from Bergamo this morning to attend the unveiling of a mural depicting the former Fiorentina captain.

Astori’s brother Bruno also attended the event along with Marco Benassi, Borja Valero and Giancarlo Antognoni.

“We always remember Davide, every morning when we cross the gate of the training center that was named after him,” Antognoni said.

“Fiorentina will remember Davide by putting something special in our kits for the next season.”

The mural is by Giulio Rosk and was conceived by Cure2children Foundation.

“The love that Davide received these days while I was working is huge,” the artist said.

“I hope this mural can reach as many people as possible and serve as a warning that was happened to Davide should not happen ever again.”

Astori’s brother Bruno posted a selfie on Instagram, writing: ‘My little brother and Me.’
