Marko Arnautovic insists he is ‘very happy and will stay at Inter’ for next season, despite suggestions the Austria international could be sold.

The 35-year-old was signed from Bologna last summer on loan with an obligation to buy for €8m plus €2m in performance-related bonuses.

He made his contribution to the Scudetto and Supercoppa Italiana victories with seven goals and three assists in 35 competitive appearances.

His contract runs to June 2025 and there were reports Inter were looking to replace him, especially after securing Medhi Taremi as a free agent from FC Porto.

“I don’t know what people are writing about, they are creating something out of nothing,” Arnautovic told Die Presse.

“Nobody has talked to me or my agent. I have a contract with Inter, I am very happy at Inter and I will stay at Inter.”

The arrival of Taremi could at least push him down the pecking order at San Siro, although a space is opened up by the departure of Alexis Sanchez at the end of his contract.

Arnautovic is currently preparing to participate in EURO 2024 with Austria, although he could well announce his international retirement after that tournament is completed.

“After the Euros, I will talk to my family, those close to me and also to the coach. I will see if I still have that desire. It is not a physical issue, I really enjoy playing for the national team and am proud of what I have done here.”

The centre-forward has 36 goals in 111 senior caps for Austria.
