Carlo Ancelotti explains why he turned down Milan and believes “Real Madrid wanted to fire me after one season.”
The Coach is taking a break to spend time with his family and recover from back surgery, but sat down with French television Canal+.
“It’s true that Milan had offered me the bench this summer, but I preferred not to accept so I could relax for a while,” said Ancelotti.
“Now I’m thinking of having a break and going on vacation before starting up again next season.”

He found himself unexpectedly out of work after Real Madrid dismissed him, just a year after lifting the Champions League trophy.
“The truth is they probably wanted to fire me after one season and they would’ve done if I hadn’t won the Champions League. I knew full well that if I didn’t win something again, they would replace me.”
The former Chelsea and PSG Coach also commented on the best forwards he has worked with.
“I saw so many players of talent, but they didn’t reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Mentality is an aspect that counts for so much.
“A lot of the credit for Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals is down to the work of Karim Benzema and people forget that.
“When Ibrahimovic arrived at PSG, the mentality of the whole team changed. I remain in contact with Ibrahimovic. He is happy at Paris Saint-Germain and wants to continue in France.”
The Swede had also been approached by Milan this summer for a return to San Siro.
“I didn’t leave PSG because of Real Madrid. I left because I thought the initial project had changed and it had become purely about results.
“In February, I had told the club that I was going to leave. It’s not true that I wanted to go because I had an offer from Real Madrid. That came later.”
