Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed he left Napoli due to the lack of ‘harmony’ between him and the club. ‘It was right to part ways’.
Ancelotti left Napoli in December 2019 and joined Everton after one and a half seasons with the Partenopei.
The 62-year-old left the job at Goodison Park to return to Real Madrid this summer and the Italian tactician spoke to RadioRai about his time with the Azzurri in Serie A.
“Two splendid professional years,” Ancelotti said. “But I know very well how it works and I think it ended in the right way.
“When there’s no harmony between the club and the coach, it’s right to part ways.”
Gennaro Gattuso replaced Ancelotti and lasted for one and a half years before Luciano Spalletti returned to Serie A ahead of 2021-22.
Napoli face Udinese tonight and a win at the Dacia Arena will make sure the Partenopei are the only team in Serie A winning all four games so far.
Ancelotti believes the Azzurri are capable of competing this year: “Napoli are competitive. I’m not sure if they can win, but they can definitely compete.”
Ancelotti finished second in Serie A during his first season with Napoli and helped them to the knockout stages of the Champions League before departing the following year.
