Massimo Ambrosini announced he is leaving Fiorentina. “I wanted to stay, but the Viola made their decision. I was surprised.”

The former Milan midfielder joined as a free agent last summer and impressed in their Serie A, Europa League and Coppa Italia campaigns.

“I am here to say my adventure with Fiorentina is finished. Thank you to everyone, I enjoyed my time here,” said Ambrosini in a Press conference.

“I wanted to stay, but the Viola made their decision. It was a great year, anyway. Why am I leaving? You’d have to ask the club, I don’t know anything.

“There isn’t always clarity in the world of football and to be honest I was rather surprised, as suddenly some things went missing.

“Did I have problems with Vincenzo Montella? Absolutely not.”

Ambrosini turns 37 later this month and has been repeatedly linked with a final spell of his playing career in America or Canada with the MLS.

“I think I’ve finished with Italian football now, unless there are some sudden surprises. It would be too odd for me to stay. I am now going to take a break.”
