Matias Almeyda is reportedly a candidate to replace Edy Reja as Coach of his old club Lazio.

Almeyda was a star of the Biancocelesti midfield in 1997-2000, before moving on to Parma, Inter and Brescia in Serie A.

He retired in 2011 and became a Coach, working at River Plate and now Banfield.

According to Calciomercato.com, Almeyda has told Lazio he is prepared to take over as Coach at the Stadio Olimpico next season.

Reja arrived over the Christmas break to replace Vladimir Petkovic and signed a contract until June 2015, but failure to qualify for the Europa League could see him sacked.
