Allegri: Saponara needs time

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri will not be rushed into fielding summer signing Riccardo Saponara.

Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri will not be rushed into fielding summer signing Riccardo Saponara.

The Italian Under-21 international moved to San Siro from Serie B side Empoli, but he hasn’t featured yet because of injury.

The attacking midfielder is on the comeback trail though and could be used as an alternative to the injured Kaka in the 4-3-1-2 system.

“Saponara has only trained twice with the team,” Allegri, who has fielded Valter Birsa behind the strikers this term, noted.

“He’s a young player who has to grow and he’ll be put in the team when the time is right. I’ll take him into consideration when he’s fit and ready.”
