Allegri: ‘Cambiaso choice could change at Juventus’

Max Allegri uses his 110th different starting XI in a row and warns nobody is sure of their place, including new fan favourite Andrea Cambiaso. ‘He is the first choice right now, that could change next week.’

The Bianconeri host Bologna and it kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium at 17.30 UK time (16.30 GMT).

“Balance must always be kept, as it is a long season and we are only in the second round,” Allegri told DAZN after an opening 3-0 victory at the Dacia Arena.

“It was a good performance in the opening weekend, but we need to play even better than we did against Udinese. Bologna are a tricky side, they have good forwards, are well-organised and we must play very well to create the conditions that will allow us to win the game.”

The coach has not used the same starting XI twice since returning to Turin, but he had seemed ready to do so today until Wojciech Szczesny picked up an injury in training.

“Bologna spread the ball well, are dangerous in wide situations and we need to improve defensively, as we allowed Udinese too many opportunities.”

Cambiaso had been expected to go out on loan again this summer, but instead he has pushed past Filip Kostic and Samuel Iling Junior to be first pick at left wing-back, here starting against his former club Bologna. Is Allegri surprised that the Italian made such an impact at Juventus?

“More than surprised, it is impressive that the lad has settled in so quickly. That doesn’t meat Kostic or Iling Junior have been dropped. He is the first choice right now, that could change next week. It is a long season and those who come off the bench will also be very important.”
