Allan: ‘Napoli tried everything’

Allan believes Napoli “leave Istanbul with heads held high, as we tried everything to win” in the 1-1 draw with Besiktas.

Marek Hamsik’s magnificent solo effort cancelled out a Ricardo Quaresma penalty.

“We tried everything we could to win, but Besiktas are a well-organised team,” Allan told Mediaset Premium.

“There are regrets for the result, but we leave Istanbul with heads held high, because it was a very good performance.”

Napoli are still leading Champions League Group B on seven points, followed by Besiktas on six, but if Benfica beat Dynamo Kiev tonight then the Portuguese giants will go level at the top.

“We know that we’ve got two or three games wrong this season, but also know we’ve improved and can do better. We mustn’t listen to anything that comes from the outside.

“All of us have our minds focused and know where we’ve gone wrong, as we mustn’t sit deep or get too stretched out. The Coach talked to us and we understood our mistakes, so hope to do even better from the next match.”
