FIGC Vice-President Demetrio Albertini feels Italy “went too deep in the second half” against Croatia, but “there is no despair.”
The Azzurri have only two points from as many games after today’s 1-1 draw and risk a group phase exit in Euro 2012.
“We went too deep in the second half and seemed almost afraid, unable to push forward the way we did in the first half. Croatia made the most of the only real chance they had,” Albertini told Rai Sport.
“All we can do is win the next game. We know qualification is within our reach and with a little more luck today we could’ve put it under our belts.
“Mario Balotelli had a lot of chances today and was threatening, while he also helped the team. He is certainly a player the Coach and his teammates have a lot of faith in.
“There is only disappointment that we didn’t get the win when we had the chance, but there is no despair. The lads are concentrated on what they must do in four days.”
Cesare Prandelli’s substitutions are coming under the spotlight, most notably Riccardo Montolivo replacing Thiago Motta rather than the grittier Antonio Nocerino.
“The Coach made some changes, the whole squad is at his disposal and has great quality. The media will discuss whatever they like, as always.”
