Former Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini urges the club to ‘believe in the project’ but admits ‘I expected a more proactive team’.
The Rossoneri spent heavily last summer but occupy sixth place and are 11points off the Champions League spots in the final stretch of the season.
“This is Milan: when you get to mid-March in the league, you’ve got what you deserve,” Albertini told Tuttosport.

“I think this team could potentially have done better and been closer to the top, but the top five have played better or maximised the positive moments of their campaign.
“Milan have thrown points away, but from Juventus to Inter, as well as Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina, everyone has had some moments of decline.
“Mihajlovic? Let’s start from the assumption that Berlusconi is the owner so he will decide. None of us know what is going on in his head.
“Sometimes he’s spurred on Mihajlovic, sometimes not. He’s backed him up or put him on the brink. Sinisa, who I think is a very good Coach, has had a season of continuous ups and downs.
“He’s brought in young players courageously like Donnarumma and Romagnoli, but it’s also true that I expected something more from the style of play, a more proactive team, and you can’t deny that Milan have messed up some games they shouldn’t have.
“Having said that, I can’t judge from the outside what is going through the head of the President and the club.
"But from my point of view, when you choose someone and start a project, you need to believe in it and work together persistently.”
