Chelsea have extended Olivier Giroud’s contract, but the French striker’s agents insist the Blues had promised to free him had he received an offer to move abroad.

Chelsea activated their clause to extend the contract of the 34-year-old until 2022. Giroud had been in talks to join Milan as a free agent and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport the Serie A giants had offered him a €4m-a-year deal for two seasons.

Milan remain interested in the French striker, but only if he can join the Stadio San Siro as a free agent.

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato.com report Giroud’s agents claim Chelsea promised the 2018 World Cup winner he would have been free to leave Chelsea as a free agent had he received an offer from abroad.

However, Chelsea don’t seem willing to let Giroud leave the club for free now.

The two clubs are in talks for Fikayo Tomori’s permanent move to the San Siro.
