Tammy Abraham thanks Roma’s ‘real fans’ and promises he and his teammates will ‘give more’ after the break.
The England striker has had a tough start to the season with just four goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.
He had become Roma’s most prolific debutant in his first season at the club, but has failed to produce the same performances this term.
“It hasn’t been the fairytale start we all would’ve wanted but in life there’s always ups & downs,” the former Chelsea striker wrote on Instagram.
“For the fans, For Rome, you deserve more & that’s what I & my team will give you after the break. Thank you to the real fans who never left our side through good or bad. Bad times make the good times better. Stay safe & see you soon. Daje Roma Sempre.”
Abraham’s message followed José Mourinho’s criticism after Roma’s 1-1 draw against Torino in the last game of the year on Sunday.
The Special One was asked whether the 25-year-old lacked motivation for being snubbed from England’s World Cup squad.
“I am old-fashioned, but I think that when you become a professional football player in a universe where millions and millions of children dream of doing this, you don’t need the support of anyone,” said the Special One.
“You don’t need an external source of motivation. What is this? An external source. A coach, a psychologist. Why?
“You have to give your all every day on the pitch, in every training session, in every match. Play badly, play well, make mistakes, but the attitude is something separate from that.
“The external source of motivation should be that plus, that little bit extra, but you are a man. Mistakes are part of the game, but when it comes to the attitude, that is different. Do you need motivation to earn your salary?”
England coach Gareth Southgate has explained Abraham’s snub saying that his poor goal-scoring record this season, cost him a spot in Qatar.
Abraham’s contract in the capital runs out in June 2026 and Chelsea have an option to re-sign the product of their academy for €80m in June 2023.
