Arrigo Sacchi admits he’s been pleasantly surprised by Roma’s emphatic start to the Serie A season.
The Giallorossi sold some key players this summer such as Marquinhos, Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Erik Lamela, but they lead the standings after six wins from six.
“No one could have predicted such a start for Roma, partly because of the players they released,” the former Milan and Italy boss told Tele Radio Stereo.
“But what boss Rudi Garcia has confirmed is that football is not a game for individuals, but that everything depends on the style of play.
“Roma have lowered their individual level but raised the collective, that improves players, thus limiting errors in an orchestra which is getting results and entertaining.
“I expect to see a good game from Inter and Roma [on Saturday], even if the two sides have a different philosophy when it comes to playing football.”
Sacchi also named Roma as one of the clubs which Italian football needs to change its philosophy.
“The Italian championship isn’t very purposeful, I don’t want to say it is negative, but prudence is the battle cry,” Sacchi continued.
“Football in Europe is attacking, except in Italy. In Spain they say the team who scores the most goals wins the League, in Italy they say who concedes the fewest wins the championship.
“Roma, Juventus, Napoli and Fiorentina are the Italian clubs trying to change that script.”
