FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio said Milan hosting the 2016 Champions League Final is “an extraordinary opportunity.”
UEFA announced the decision this evening to award the game to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza – more commonly known as San Siro – but it had already been reported for several months.
“We can finally celebrate,” Tavecchio told reporters. “It is wonderful news for Italian football, which has the ambition of being an absolute protagonist in Europe again, also through the organisation of big events like this and Euro 2020 in Rome.
“The Champions League Final in particular for its economic impact on the territory will be an extraordinary opportunity for Milan, adding to the benefits expected from Expo 2015.
“I am certain the local administration, who for some time have planned important investments for its citizens, will be able to make full advantage of the opportunities around this sporting event.
“I also hope that we will be able to see at least one Italian team on the field that day.”
