Juan Camilo Zuniga insists he “didn’t mean to hurt” Neymar after ending the Brazilian’s World Cup with a fractured vertebra.

The Colombia and Napoli full-back kneed Neymar in the back during the final stages of a 2-1 quarter-final clash.

Neymar was stretchered off in tears and x-rays showed he fractured the third lumbar vertebra, meaning he’ll be out for four to six weeks.

“I do everything to defend my team and the jersey I wear, but never with the intent of harming anyone. I didn’t mean to hurt Neymar,” Zuniga told reporters.

“It was a normal challenge as part of the game. We both wanted to win the ball and we both went in a little strong. This is normal.

“I certainly didn’t go into the challenge hoping to fracture his back. It is very sad for Neymar, but I hope with God’s help he gets well soon, because everyone knows he is a great talent for Brazil.”

Neymar is out of the World Cup, while captain Thiago Silva will be suspended for Tuesday’s semi-final against Germany.
