Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea return does not convince Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola: ‘They need a striker, but…’

Lukaku is on the verge of returning to Stamford Bridge in a €130m move, which would make him the most expensive Serie A player ever.

Inter have rejected an offer worth €100m plus Marcos Alonso, but they expect a new bid in the coming days, according to multiple reports.

Lukaku has already given the all-clear to return to Chelsea, but club legend Gianfranco Zola doesn’t seem convinced by his signing.

“I’m curious to watch him, also because Chelsea create a lot but finalize little, so they needed a striker,” Zola said at a press conference today, as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.

‘Magic Box’ was unveiled as one of Amazon Italia pundits for Champions League games in 2021-22.

“However, I liked the Chelsea side that won in Europe,” the former striker continued.

“Perhaps, Werner has missed many chances, but he was always available for his teammates and opened spaces for them. So I’m curious, but I liked Chelsea as it was.”

Lukaku has scored 64 goals in 95 appearances with the Nerazzurri. He moved to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in a €75m deal from Manchester United in the summer of 2018.

Zola spent seven years at Stamford Bridge, scoring 80 goals in 312 appearances with the Blues.
