The Giallorossi announced the appointment of Mourinho ahead of next season on Monday and the news immediately triggered the debate of an old rivalry between the two former Chelsea coaches.

The Nerazzurri coach said he has ‘no problems’ with Jose Mourinho but reacted with surprise to the announcement.

A meeting between the two coaches in Serie A has put the spotlight back on their tough relationship back in their Premier League days and Zola was asked to compare the two tacticians.

“I believe they are different,” Zola told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Very good, but different.

“The points they have in common is that they are extremely demanding and have enormous personalities.

“I hope that Italian football will find the best Mourinho. It’s certainly a different football from the times of Inter, but we are talking about a coach at a high level.

“He will be able to adapt to the situation. He’s a character who can give a lot in an environment like Roma’s. He represents the added value.

“He will have the advantage that Roma thrives on enthusiasm and Jose is a driving force.”
