Italy legend Dino Zoff believes Genoa’s Mattia Perin is the “future of the Nazionale” and not Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Gigi Buffon turns 40 later this month and will soon have to make way for the next generation of goalkeepers.
According to Zoff, who won the 1982 World Cup at the age of 40, there is one player who stood out among the rest.
“I think Perin is ready for a big club like Napoli, but he’d do well to wait until the end of the season,” Zoff told Il Mattino newspaper.

“I consider him to be the best Italian in his role and that’s not just at club level, but also for the Nazionale.
“Perin is hot property on the market because he really represents the Italian school of goalkeeping. He is a classic Number 1 who keeps out goals and has good passing technique too.
“Playing for a side competing for the title can only be a good thing. Right now, Perin needs to take it slowly and realise at a big club you need to keep the concentration when we not really involved in the play.”
