A pair of gloves made for Dino Zoff when Italy won the 1982 World Cup have been stolen from a display celebrating the history of the Azzurri.
The gloves were designed especially for the tournament in Spain, so they were coloured in grey and black with a bright red palm in homage to local colours.
They were on display at the Hilton Rome Airport for a charity evening representing the Un Secolo d’Azzurro exhibit covering 100 years of the Azzurri’s history.
The exact gloves used by Zoff during the World Cup in 1982 are part of that display at the Museum of Calcio in Coverciano.
These were of the same design and batch, but used in the following season at Juventus.
“It is the first time we have suffered such a serious theft in five years of activity,” said promoter Aldo Rossi Merighi.
The exhibit included over 500 items dating from 1870 to 2023.
It is not known who stole Zoff’s gloves or why these particular items were targeted.
Zoff was the captain of the Italy side that won the 1982 World Cup in Spain and it was his last major tournament, aged 40.
