The Sweden international first came to Italy for Juventus in 2004, moving on to arch rivals Inter after the Calciopoli scandal of 2006.
“In Turin, everything was just ‘wow’, as I was young and dreaming of making my mark, arriving to be part of a Juventus squad that looked as if it had been put together on a PlayStation.
“They told me Inter would be another step forward, the contract that would help me to win. It did go well, but I never felt as strong with Inter as I did at Milan.
“The Rossoneri had a group of champions right at the end of their careers, so I did all I could to drag the team forward. Those were really special years for me, which gave me back my joy of the game that I had lost at Barcelona. I have never felt stronger.”
Ibra famously left San Siro only a few months before they won the 2010 Treble under Jose Mourinho.
“Everyone wants to win the Champions League and I’d be stupid to say otherwise. It would’ve been an extra prestigious trophy for my cabinet, but at that moment, I needed something different. My mistake was to change my play to suit Barcelona. Believe me, that is my only regret in this career, that I tried to become like them.
"Mourinho will alway remain The Special One and had a significant impact on my career. I wish him all the best and I'm sure his next job will be a winning one."
It is now a far cry from the side he played for in 2010-12, before the transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, as Milan have just fired Coach Marco Giampaolo after four defeats in the opening three rounds.
“Milan are a disaster. They’re all talk and no action,” slammed Ibra.
“This is not the club everyone fell in love with, in Italy and all over the world. Perhaps there are too many wrong people who should be elsewhere.
“Paolo Maldini doesn’t have what it takes to be a director, whereas in his playing career he was one of my all-time favourites.
“In fairness, Maldini does have a difficult task, because it’s not easy to do well with limited resources.”
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan director Leonardo had made an offer to Ibrahimovic a year ago, but CEO Ivan Gazidis pulled the plug, insisting no players over 30 will be signed.
This in turn irritated Leonardo, who left not long afterwards for a return to PSG.
