Manchester United are reportedly paying more than the €40m release clause for Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, not including the €15m commission that Milan refused to cover, taking the total to €57.5m.

Multiple sources including The Athletic are confident the Dutch forward will fly out tonight and undergo a medical tomorrow morning.

The striker was a big draw on the transfer market this summer, aided by the fact he has a release clause set at only €40m.

Why Milan left Zirkzee to Man Utd

Milan had agreed personal terms and accepted the clause weeks ago, but did not progress because they would not pay his agent Kia Joorabchian the €15m commission.

They have abandoned other transfers due to commission as well, making a moral stance out of it, and remained consistent.

It was not an issue for Manchester United, who according to Fabrizio Romano are in fact paying even more than the €40m clause to get better payment structure options with Bologna.

It will be €42.5m spread out over three years.

That is not including the €15m commission, so in the end they will pay around €57.5m for Zirkzee.

The player will also sign a five year contract with option for a sixth.
