Finnish businessman Thomas Zilliacus further detailed his plans for Inter after laying the foundations for an improved offer for the club.

The billionaire philanthropist announced on social media on Monday that his investment company XXI Century Capital had agreed deals with investors worth $2.5 billion US dollars ahead of a new offer for the Nerazzurri.

The Zhang family, Inter’s current owners, have been managing financial difficulties since the COVID pandemic and various reports in recent months have suggested that they’d be open to selling the club, especially considering the fast-approaching deadline of their over €300m debt with Oaktree.

Speaking to TVPlay via Calciomercato.com, Zilliacus detailed his plans for Inter should his offer be accepted by the Zhang family.

“Our investors are financial investors who are not part of the football world. We are convinced that we can become, as Inter, an even bigger club than now. This is not a criticism of the current club, who have great management and a great coach.

“Our goal would be to grow, with this new ownership we would like to specialise in the creation of services for fans around the world as well, with the intention of increasing revenues and then going on to have greater strength in the market.

“The consequence of all this would then be the possibility of buying top players and, in general, improving an already strong team. Mbappe, for example, wouldn’t be just a dream.

“The idea would be to gradually strengthen an already quality line-up to compete, every year, for both the Scudetto and the Champions League.”

The Finnish billionaire then detailed the current status of the offer and what could come next.

“I think I know how much the Zhang family wants, and we are not so far from their proposal. We want to turn Inter into the greatest team in the world. It is not correct to say how much the club is worth now.

“We have our advisors from the financial group who will work on it and make a more precise evaluation in this sense. It is not a question of vanity, in fact we would be open to the possibility of working together with Zhang, leaving him as president but taking over the team.

“It is not an image operation, but I would like a sustainable model to make this team the most important in the world.”

Inter currently sit at the top of the Serie A table and are in a strong spot in the Champions League as they fight to reach the knockout stages.

  1. What do people make of this? I’d rather have a situation where someone is gonna push through our own stadium (yeah I know this probably won’t happen – it’s Italy after all) and try to buy the top tier players rather than have the threat of selling off our best player year on year.
