Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is set to miss Saturday’s Serie A clash against Cagliari after reporting an inflammation in his leg in the aftermath of Tuesday’s 2-0 win over Braga in the Champions League.

According to Saturday’s print edition of Il Corriere dello Sport and TMW, the Poland international had been touch-and-go for Saturday’s game, but is keen to avoid aggravating his current injury issu.

There were concerns that Zielinski could rule himself out of next weekend’s league match against Jose Mourinho’s Roma if he rushed himself back for the Cagliari game.

23-year-old Gianluca Gaetano is the papers’ favourite to replace the injured Zielinski in midfield. He is thought to be preferred to summer signing and Sweden international Jens Cajuste.

Corriere dello Sport also notes that Walter Mazzarri is set to be without Elif Elmas, who is also set to miss out on the matchday squad with a minor injury.
