Poland will face France tomorrow in the World Cup, but Piotr Zielinski admits he has found his ‘ideal position’ at Napoli.
The Round of 16 clash kicks off on Sunday at 15.00 GMT and Zielinski is expected to start along with many other Serie A players, including Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus.
“We can sense the right atmosphere and believe we can beat them to reach the quarter-finals,” said Zielinski in his press conference.
“They are the reigning champions, but we are a good team too, we just have to prove ourselves.”
The 28-year-old has had some ups and downs in his career, practically all of it in Italy since coming to Udinese’s youth academy in 2011, but seems to be in the form of his life this season.
“I am a midfielder. I play on the left of a 4-3-3 with Napoli and that is my ideal position, but I can play in other roles too. The coach will decide where I can best give my contribution to the team.”
Napoli are top of the Serie A table and have booked their spot in the Champions League Round of 16 against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Zielinski contributed with six goals and seven assists in 21 competitive club matches so far this season.
He also scored for Poland in their 2-0 World Cup group stage win over Saudi Arabia, which allowed them to set up this match against France.
