Piotr Zielinski defended Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti and urged the team to “build on that second half” after a 1-1 draw with Udinese.

His goal cancelled out a Kevin Lasagna opener at the Dacia Arena.

“We need to build on the second half, which is where we showed that we can play our style of football,” Zielinski told Sky Sport Italia.

“We created lots of scoring opportunities and could’ve had more goals. We needed a confidence-booster, as we all know the period we are going through, so we must build on that second half.

“We’re going through a tough time at the moment and have to do much better, because we are a big team. Unfortunately, these periods happen in football.

“Now we have to focus on Tuesday’s game with Genk, which is very important for us.”

Zielinski was asked if the performance was also a response to those who say Ancelotti has lost the dressing room.

“The coach is great. We are the players who go on to the field and must give more. I am glad with my first goal of the season, as I had so many shots on goal and none of them had gone in.

“It’s fitting I scored it here, where I made my Serie A debut for Udinese.”
