There are reports Zinedine Zidane could be appointed PSG coach if Mauricio Pochettino agrees to take over at Manchester United, but this would worsen the situation of Gigio Donnarumma in Paris.
Donnarumma joined the Ligue 1 giants on a free transfer from Milan in the summer, signing a deal until 2026.
However, he’s been struggling with playing time under Pochettino and has recently claimed that the competition with Keylor Navas disturbs him.
The former Real Madrid goalkeeper was sent off in a Ligue 1 clash against Nantes last weekend, but Donnarumma wasn’t even on the bench due to gastroenteritis. Navas is expected to start when PSG visit Manchester City tomorrow night.
PSG arrived in Paris today and there is a lot of hype around Pochettino in Manchester. According to the Daily Mail, Zidane is interested in the PSG job if Pochettino goes to Old Trafford, where the Red Devils are looking for a replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Former midfielder Michael Carrick will take charge of United for today’s Champions League match against Villareal in a match that Atalanta will follow closely given that Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are also in Group F.
Despite his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, Zidane doesn’t seem interested in the Manchester United job, but would be happy to move to Paris.
This could be bad news for Donnnarumma as Zidane knows Navas very well.
The 34-year-old won three Champions League under the French coach in Madrid, playing 117 games under the former Juventus midfielder.
Both Mino Raiola and Gigio Buffon have recently justified Donnarumma’s decision to leave Milan to join PSG, adding that the Italy international will soon become a regular starter in Paris.
However, if Zidane takes over, it could take longer than expected for Gigio to become the first choice between the PSG sticks.
