Zidane denies peace with Materazzi

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly denied making peace with Marco Materazzi before Real Madrid's match against Milan on Wednesday night.

Marca claimed the two met at the Hotel Melia on via Masaccio and had a polite chat before embracing in a gesture of reconciliation.

It was the first time Zidane and Materazzi had shown any signs of putting the events of the 2006 World Cup Final behind them.

Zidane was sent off after he head-butted Materazzi following a verbal exchange that is still the subject of great speculation.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Zidane will now deny making up with Materazzi, intimating that he thought the latter was a fan and didn't recognise him.

A statement is expected to be released on Zidane's official website at some point later today.

Materazzi has since said: "There certainly wasn't any embrace with Zidane."
