Inter president Steven Zhang is desperate to win a historic 20th Scudetto this season, aware that his time in charge could be coming to an end in the near future.

Page two of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how the Nerazzurri president phoned coach Simone Inzaghi this week to congratulate him and the squad for reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League.

During that call, he also reiterated his top priority for this season – Inter’s 20th Scudetto. Sewing a new star on the shirt would represent the crowning achievement for Zhang during his time in charge, giving meaning to his five-year spell at the helm.

Zhang is also aware that this could be his last chance to win another Scudetto with Inter. By May 20, 2024, the Grand Tower Sarl – the Luxembourg holding company that owns Inter – must repay over €350m in loans to US fund Oaktree.

The Inter president will make a final decision regarding his future at the club by the end of the calendar year, with options including the sale of the club, new minor shareholders or a possible refinancing of the Oaktree loan.

In the meantime, Inter’s qualification for the Champions League knockout stages and the 2025 Club World Cup has earnt them around €85m total.
