Inter were finally freed of FFP restrictions in May – three years after Suning Group’s takeover – and Zhang believes the current system is making life difficult for new owners.

“Since I arrived here the problem has been to understand how Financial Fair Play works,” he said at the seminar ‘Financial Fair Play – does it matter?’, SempreInter.com reports.

“There was no talk of new players, no one talked about marketing or how to change our environment.

“Before buying Inter, we [Suning] were a retail company and I had never seen a football match; I took a year to understand how this system worked instead of starting to think about how to improve the club.

“The direction taken with regard to Financial Fair Play is the right one but there are so many improvements to be made.

“I ask that FFP 2.0 can be more flexible, especially when it comes to dealing with ownership changes.”

The President was then asked about the enthusiasm of the club’s fans, why a new stadium was a must and what Serie A could learn from the Premier League.

“I think it’s a typical thing of the Italian fans, especially those of Inter. The fans have understood the moment of growth, the club is growing in services and wants to improve even more by first creating a new stadium.

“Many people want to spend time seeing what we do. 80% of resources are dedicated to 20% of the people involved, these resources should be better distributed by rewarding those who want to make a contribution.

“New clubs produce new entertainment, people come because they are attracted by the possibility of seeing us.

“We must learn from Premier League clubs who know how to improve their resources.

“By improving our system, we can attract more important players and make Serie A even more competitive.”
