Inter president Steven Zhang looked to silence ‘various rumours’ regarding his future at the club as the debt deadline fast approaches.

The Nerazzurri owner has been in the headlines for months now as he works to resolve the over €375m in debts to US fund Oaktree, which must be repaid by May 20th. Failing to do so would see the fund take control of the Milanese team.

In recent days, reports have detailed Zhang’s plan to deal with the Oaktree debts, working to set up a new €400m loan with a London-based fund, which would have 12% interest and a three-year deadline. This news has proved concerning for some fans, who feel he is simply delaying the problem.

Zhang confidence

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 via TMW moments before the start of the Chinese Grand Prix, Zhang first discussed his position at Inter, sharing his confidence.

“I believe that in the last seven years where we’ve been owners of Inter, there’ve been various rumours. We’ve won six trophies, we’ll continue to fight and win.

“I’m the president and as long as I’m the owner we’ll try to continue to win. Inzaghi is a gift to me, he gives me stability and there’s no doubt that we’ll continue together.”

He then spoke about Monday evening’s Derby della Madonnina with Milan.

“I’m very proud of my team, I couldn’t be happier as president. We all know what our objective will be, and an important match awaits us.”
