The rumours that Jose Mourinho and Roma are interested in striker Sardar Azmoun evidently reached the Zenit St Petersburg social media managers.
Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia had reported yesterday that the Giallorossi were preparing a swoop for the Iran international forward.
That news clearly made its way to Russia, where Zenit played their opening game of the season today against Khimki.
Azmoun was on target and a Roma supporter linked to the announcement with the comment: ‘Mourinho sign him up.’
The official Zenit account wasn’t going to let that go and sent a message of their own: ‘Mourinho, ignore him.’
Azmoun is 26 years old and expected to cost circa €20m, although Roma would propose some players in part-exchange.
Bayer Leverkusen are also interested in signing the former Rubin Kazan hitman.
