The match marked Cassano’s first start at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for over five years, and Zenga complimented the striker for his contribution.

"You have to appreciate the work Antonio has done in recent months to recover, he’s a real professional,” he told Sky Sport.

“He’s played some great balls to set up his teammates; I congratulate him because he’s back in form after great sacrifices.

“Games last 90 minutes and you must understand the moments in a match.

“In the first half we messed up some things and then we fixed it in the break.

“We suffered a bit with Saponara in the first half. Dropping Fernando into a hybrid position and pressing more meant we played better – in fact it was from this that Eder’s goal came.

“Today we played against a very well-oached team that in my opinion won’t be fighting relegation.

“They have a very high defence and you have to be good at doing certain things, in my view tonight we played very good football.

“I complimented Giampaolo – I admire him and I still haven’t managed to beat him…”
