Andrea Barberis wiped out the Eder opener at San Siro on an emotional night for ex-Inter goalkeeper Zenga.
“The hug with Benny Carbone at the final whistle was because to see the team play like this, with this character in a stadium like San Siro against a side like Inter was wonderful. We barely risked anything at the back and consistently played good football,” Zenga told Mediaset Premium.
“Plus, we were home. It’s never easy for me to come here and it feels as if my life goes flashing through my mind, all the history here. It’s tough.”
Zenga seemed moved to tears at the final whistle when saluting the Nerazzurri supporters, who had several banners of love and affection.
“I was born in Inter and went up through the youth academy. I was born Interista. It’s easier to have a strong rapport with a club like that. I think the fans appreciate those who work hard, give their all and love the jersey.”
The Crotone Coach even jumped on the touchline at the chant: ‘Anyone who doesn’t jump is a Rossonero.’
“I was in the stands singing that in the old days, so it was just a bit of fun that doesn’t insult anyone.
“I am the Coach of Crotone and mainly paid attention to my team. It was complicated for me to split the profession from the private for 90 minutes.
“We pushed hard and ran a few risks. I am happy with the performance, as I think if we play like this consistently, we will get the results.
“I ask the team to play one or at most two or three touch football to reach the forwards as quickly as possible. It’s tiring at times, it’s a growth process, but we’ll get there.
“Luciano Spalletti is a great Coach and the right Coach for Inter, so he’ll talk about Inter and I won’t.”
