Walter Zenga said Sampdoria facing Vojvodina in the Europa League preliminary round tomorrow was "destiny."

The first leg of this clash is on Thursday evening at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), hosted by the Stadio Olimpico in Turin.

“We are convinced that we are ready, otherwise we wouldn’t be here after working so hard,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“Europa League ties are played over 180 minutes. We respect Vojvodina a great deal, we have studied them just as they have studied us, but we have the absolute belief that we will play without pressure.

“In 2015 there are no secrets, we can all view and research each other. That is the job of the Coach and his staff. Having said that, I want my players to focus on themselves and to play to the best of their abilities, as that is the only way to go forward.”

Zenga is no stranger to Serbia, having won the League title here with Red Star Belgrade.

“I am very happy and honoured to begin this European campaign in Serbia, as I had the opportunity to get to know this extraordinary League and still have many friends here.

“On top of that, this fixture sees us bonded to the figure of Vujadin Boskov, who made history at Sampdoria. Every Coach took him as a role model, because he did such great things.

“There is a mixture of emotions for me in this double game with Vojvodina and I think destiny had a hand in the draw.

“I have worked with many Eastern European sides. My Red Star lost only two games, one of them against Novi Sad against Vojvodina and I was very angry, but on the return leg we won the League title and so that made me happy!

“When the Balkan clubs play in this type of game, they give even more than 100 per cent. I know the mentality of the directors, the players, the fans and exactly what this match means to them.”

The referee for this game will be Sweden’s Andreas Ekberg.
