Former Italy goalkeeper Walter Zenga has praised Gianluigi Donnarumma and says he’s one of five leaders at the Azzurri. ‘He gives everyone security’.

The former Milan goalkeeper leaves Serie A after EURO 2020, as he is on the verge of completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

Zenga is impressed with how Donnarumma has dealt with the situation and pointed at the wealth of experience at a very young age.

“I could have played the first three games too,” Zenga joked to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “Then, as I know him: a boy who knows what he wants from life and lets everything slip on him. Even the Milan-PSG affair.

“This Italy have five leaders: the two charismatics, [Leo] Bonucci and [Giorgio] Chiellini, the tactical one who is Jorginho and the fictional one, [Lorenzo] Insigne.

“And then the calm leader, Gigio, because he gives everyone security. He is the one who gave the feeling of greater reliability.

“Compared to me, who made my debut in Serie A at 23, he has a great advantage. He is 22 years old, he already has more than 200 games with Milan, he has played the cups, he is playing a European Championship as a starter and he is about to play with PSG.”
