Zdenek Zeman is expected to shortly take over at Cagliari, with reports that Inter’s Ruben Botta is a first transfer target.
The veteran tactician was seen at the start of this week as in talks with both newly relegated Bologna and the Sardinians, having also previously been linked with a return to Pescara.
It is now believed that Bologna’s financial struggles have seen them drop out of negotiations with Zeman altogether and that a deal with Cagliari is increasingly closer to being finalised, with some sections of the Italian media indicating only official confirmation is lacking.
It is believed that the 67-year-old has already committed to a one-year deal paying €700,000, with an option in place for a further year’s extension.
The Gazzetta dello Sport also report that alongside Zeman, the club now under prospective new owner and President Tommaso Giulini’s leadership, will bring back Francesco Marroccu as sporting director.
However, beyond the current Beira Mar official, former Pescara and Genoa ds Daniele Delli Carri is also linked with the position.
Meanwhile, reports are that Zeman has already made his first request in the transfer market, for Cagliari to try and set up a deal for Inter’s Ruben Botta, if only just on loan for next year.
